Project Description

PLOT TWIST is a competitive storytelling game where two writers create different stories from the same seven prompts. The game uses seven variable categories: genre, protagonist, desire, conflict, setting, relationship, and twist, each with multiple possible values. Each round, a Director selects three prompts, and the two Writers each select two prompts from the remaining categories. Together, these seven prompts form one shared setup. Both Writers then have three minutes to use the same setup to create a title and one-sentence description for an original television show. The Writers pitch their stories to the Director, who chooses the winning interpretation. The winner earns one point, the Director role rotates, and the next round begins. The first player to reach five points wins. Through playtesting, the system produced five rounds, ten different television shows, and five winning outcomes, demonstrating how the same set of prompts can lead to very different stories depending on how each player interprets and combines them.
