Butterfly Dance

All Projects

by Kexin Chen

This poster combines p5.js and Illustrator. I used p5.js to generate different butterfly forms, then added gradients, textures, patterns, and colors in Illustrator. The project explores how code controls form while Illustrator develops visual style and personality.

This video shows a butterfly generator in motion. The program randomizes the antennae, upper wings, lower wings, and color, creating a different butterfly each time within the same visual system.
I used if and else if statements to change the appearance of a single variable. Different value ranges produce different upper-wing shapes, allowing one variable to control multiple visual outcomes.
